The Hallow Review

The hallow

Okay, this one was difficult for me but I figured that it is best to be honest, so here we go. The Hallow is a movie that blurred the line between Creature Feature and Bad Parenting 101. I started watching this movie a few months ago but the incredibly slow lead up left me wanting to watch anything else! I finally decided to finish the movie for the respect of the genre but I can’t say that I am super thrilled I did that. This movie is about a family of three, Adam, Claire, and baby boy Finn, who move to a super large house out in the woods so that Adam can continue work. You see, our buddy Adam is a conservationist and he NEEDS to get his work done, no matter what anyone warns him about. The woods around the house are over run with twisted creatures that leave behind black stuff that resembles Symbiote from the Marvel comics and only have one goal and that is to steal a baby. The best character in the whole movie is a lovely gentleman named Colm. He sets out to warn the family of the danger and even gives them a book explaining it all. Do they listen? Well, that would just be silly! When you buy a house that is fitted with iron bars on all the windows, don’t buy it or better yet, don’t remove the bars! I spent most of the movie thinking, “What is wrong with these people?” Not to mention how bad I felt for baby Finn as he could do nothing to protect himself from his parents… I mean the creatures. When the creatures finally take over the house and send the family on a chase after Finn, you will find yourself playing fun little game called Who’s the Better Parent? I’ll let you all decide that. Again, I want to be honest here so, did this movie have me on the edge of my seat? Meh. Did I yell at my screen? Yes, but not for the right reasons. Would I watch this again? No, nor would I highly suggest it to anyone. What I can tell you is, if you are looking for a fun creature feature that throws logic out the window and has some good jump scares, watch The Hallow.

  1. Good review!! I know it is hard to sit through a movie that is not drawing you in. I have watched a few movies that on first watch I did not care for…….but on second watch changed my mind. This one however cemented your first impression all the way to the end. 🙂
